When facing an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy, one of the most important questions women ask is:
"When is the best time to have an abortion?"
At Women for Women Kenya, we want every woman to have the right information to make safe, timely decisions for her health and future.
✅ The Best Time to Abort Is as Early as Possible.
Whether you’re considering abortion for personal, medical, or financial reasons, the earlier you act, the safer, easier, and more effective the process will be.
Why?
✅ Less risk of complications
✅ Less pain and bleeding
✅ More affordable and accessible
✅ More options available (e.g., pills vs. surgery)
✅ Less emotional and physical stress.
Aborting early also helps protect your privacy, avoid stigma, and plan better for recovery and family planning.
🔹 What Does “Early” Mean?
We recommend that women consider abortion as soon as they confirm pregnancy, ideally:
- Between 5 and 10 weeks from the first day of your last period.
- This is when medical abortion using pills is most effective and safe (over 95% success rate).
If you’re unsure how far along you are, we offer free or low-cost pregnancy testing and gestational age assessments at our clinic or partner facilities.
🔹 What If I'm Past 10 Weeks?
It’s still possible to have a safe abortion up to 12–13 weeks, but you may need more pills or a clinic procedure.
Beyond that, abortions become more complex, costlier, and require more medical supervision. Acting early gives you the most control.
🚨 Don’t Wait for the Situation to “Fix Itself”
We understand that denial, fear, or confusion can delay decisions. But pregnancy doesn’t pause, and time matters. If you’re unsure or scared, you can talk to us confidentially. We’re here to listen and help, not judge.
